A jampacked week of wandering Ireland’s stunning west coast awaits you. This package allows you to explore our Wild Atlantic Way and our spectacular Greenway. As the trip winds you through Yeat’s Sligo, Mayo’s rugged coast, Galway’s Connamara and Clare’s Cliffs of Moher. With the Wild Atlantic Way acting as a backdrop throughout your Irish adventure you will be sure to experience plenty of “craic agus ceoil” (Gaelic for fun and music).
You will begin and end you trip in Shannon airport an airport with regular flights from across Europe and the United States. Ireland’s wild atlantic way acts as an unforgettable backdrop for this tour.
After collecting you car at the airport it’s time to make you way towards Sligo town approx. two hour drive away. After checking into your hotel and freshening up you will have an abundance of things to do within your dropstep. Benbulbin is a mountain which dominates the region where walkers can climb to the top or take a short forest walk around. Retail therapy or even going for a surf in Strandhill are also viable options for you to wile away your first day. If delicious food and drink is what you are looking for to kick off your holiday you have come to the right place as Sligo offers many award winning restaurant and excellent bar food options.
From Sligo town you venture towards Enniscrone- a lovely town with a beautiful beach and charming cafes for you to grab some delicious food. Then venture on to Westport where there are Plenty of places to eat and watch the world go by.
Westport is an ideal spot to base yourself for some exploring and day trip. We would highly recommend a day trip to the splendid Achill Islands or Inishturk islands. Achill Island has plenty to offer and be sure and check out Keem beach, it is just stunning and never fails to take my breath away.
Westport is a gateway to adventure and you will have your choice of entertainment. The top tourist attraction in the area for many is the Great Western Greenway. The Greenway pays homage to the old Great Western Railway Line which ceased in 1937. This route is ideal for walkers and cyclists alike where traveller can be amazed the breathtaking Nephin Beg mountain range, Clew Bay, Clare Island, Croagh Patrick and Achill. A stop in Mulranny’s beach on a sunny day is a must. The 42 km route is almost entirely traffic free with shorter cycle and walking routes available. The bike hire company has bases in each town and village along the route which allows you to hire in one town and drop your bike off at any of their other bases. This means you only have to cycle as far as you want and they will bring you back to your starting point in their bus. Following your cycle you will have worked up a great hunger and thirst for exploring Westport for the last time before your departure the following morning.
It’s time to pack up and head for County Galway. First stop Connemara National Park. This harsh wild landscape of marshes, bog, exposed rock and flora unique to the region provide a myraid of colour for tourists of the region to behold. If you are feeling adventurous you can climb Diamond hill and take in the exhilarating views of the surrounding regions before stopping for lunch in nearby Cliften. After resting up in Cliften it time for a jaunt into Galway to explore the city of the tribes steeped in history and culture you will realise why it a must visit Irish city.
Drive through the Burren where there will be lots of opportunities to take photos and do some walking/hiking. Doolin offers a fantastic selection of food for sustenance after your adventure through the Burrn. Then on towards the breathtaking Cliffs of Moher.
